When I first started HuyEco Farm in Da Lat, sustainable coffee farming was still a rare concept in Vietnam. Most farms relied on chemical inputs and monoculture to maximize yield. But I believed there had to be a better way — one that respected the land, empowered farmers, and offered something truly meaningful to those who drink our coffee.
Today, we’re proud to say that HuyEco can grow coffee sustainably. But the truth is, it’s not easy. Compared to conventional farming, our yields are 30–50% lower. To maintain productivity, we have to double the amount of organic fertilizer — which means higher costs and more labor. It’s a daily challenge, but one we choose with purpose.
At HuyEco, we don’t just grow coffee. We grow biodiversity. Our farm is a living ecosystem — coffee trees thrive under forest canopy, alongside bananas, pineapples, local grass, and native plants. This diversity protects the soil, supports wildlife, and creates a richer flavor in every bean.
To make our model work, we sell our high-quality, forest-grown coffee directly at HuyEco Café in Da Lat. Visitors can taste the difference, meet the farmers, and learn the story behind each cup. We also offer eco coffee tours and local travel experiences, where guests walk through the farm, harvest coffee, and discover the culture of sustainable agriculture.
Recently, I was invited to join a special program on sustainable coffee trade, hosted by RECOFT. It brought together farmers, traders, and experts from across the region. We listened, we learned, and we shared.
Experts introduced new frameworks for sustainability — ones that require not just technical knowledge, but serious financial investment. Traders emphasized the importance of product quality and long-term commitment. And I had the chance to speak as a farmer with over 10 years of experience in sustainable coffee — not just theory, but real soil, real sweat.
I shared my belief: that true sustainability must be regional. In Da Lat, we need a network of farms working together, not just isolated efforts. If we can build a collective model, we can offer better prices to farmers, better products to consumers, and a stronger future for our land.
That’s why I created HuyEco Café — not just to sell coffee, but to celebrate the people behind it. Every cup honors the farmers, the researchers, and the dreamers who believe in a better way. It’s our way of telling the world: sustainable coffee is not a trend. It’s a movement.
Some people at the forum thought my ideas were too ambitious. Too long-term. But I’m not discouraged. I know this path is worth walking — for the farmers of Da Lat, for the forests we protect, and for the travelers who want more than just a drink. They want a story. A connection. A future.
